In Memory: Dunblane In Memory: Dunblane

In our hearts and memories

The peace of a small town was shattered on the morning of 13th March 1996. That morning was, at first, like any other in the small town of Dunblane, Scotland. Parents sending their children off to school, sleepy shops beginning to awaken. But this morning something very evil and unthinkable was happening. Thomas Hamilton, a 43-year-old local resident, for a reason we shall never know walked into the gymnasium of the Dunblane Primary School at 9:30am. And taking one of the four pistols he carried with him that morning, he opened fire on the young children and their teachers.

When the gunfire was finally silent and the chaos beginning to subdue, 16 innocent children and their teacher were dead. Another 12 children, in the kindergarten class, and another teacher were wounded in the gunfire. When he was done with this act of mindless evil the gunman turned one of his high-powered pistols on himself.

This catastrophic even shocked the world, and left the people of Dunblane in a limbo of uncertainty. The people of Scotland, Great Britain and those of the world outside joined in mourning the loss of Dunblane's children. Cards, flowers and other condolences flooded the town, and filled the sidewalk outside the school, all thoughts seemed to echo the same question, "Why?"

Of the 16 children killed all were either five or six years old. To them and their teacher we send our hopes and dreams. To their families we offer our sympathy, our hearts, and our prayers.

For the loss of our beloved.
May we never forget,
who they were or the love they inspired.
